All-

Please register by end of the day tomorrow if you are coming on the Spruce Knob trip.

A couple of notes based on tonight's meeting:

-- We will not be camping at the Spruce Knob summit, but rather at a lower elevation - so we won't face the same level of extreme cold Saturday night as we would at the summit elevation.  The current forecast for Saturday night at the summit is in the high single digits, while at lower elevations it is forecast to be 10-15 degrees warmer.

-- We will park, hike to the summit with day packs, and then return to the car before to the campsite - so you should pack a daypack with lunch and some extra clothes, while having your sleeping bag, tent, full change of extra clothes, etc. in your backpack.

-- As always, weather is unpredictable - so you need to plan for cold.  Also, make sure you bring snowshoes or nordic skis in case there is snow.  I can't promise that there will be snow, but I don't know that there won't be.

Thanks, and talk to you soon.

With a high point of 4,863 feet, Spruce Knob is the highest point in West Virginia, and the summit Spruce Mountain, the highest peak in the Allegheny Mountains. The summit of Spruce Knob has a definite alpine feel, much more so than most other mountains in the area. Definitely worth the trip!!

If you plan to come, please register online by this coming Wednesday, January 10th - and please be prepared to show me your gear and equipment at this Tuesday's meeting (January 9th).
