We will be hiking on the Signal Knob Loop Trail, 10-mile loop trail located in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia. Signal Knob, at 2,106 feet elevation, gets its name as both Confederate and Union troops used it as a lookout during the Civil War. (The Confederate Signal Corps controlled the outlook from 1862 until 1864, when Union troops took control of the peak.)

We’ll be backcountry camping along the loop, likely walking 6-7 miles on Saturday, and walking the remainder of the trail on Sunday.
