From Scoutmaster Paul Barringer:
As we did last year, Troop 255 will be doing a multi-day hike on the Appalachian Trail this summer. A number of you have expressed interest in the trip, and we have room for more!
The Appalachian Trail is a ~2,160 mile long footpath that runs from Maine to Georgia - including sections close to us in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Our trip will likely take us on a portion that's about 60 miles long - tentatively from Route 7 in Virginia (near Harpers Ferry) south to Thornton Gap (also in Virginia). This is a great section that has beautiful scenery and some nice overlooks. For those who don't have it, this trip should allow you to make substantial progress towards the Hiking Merit Badge. This also will qualify as a troop HIgh Adventure.
Here are the working dates for the trip, as well as some additional details:
-- Trip dates: Wednesday, August 2nd - Sunday, August 6th
-- Location: Appalachian Trail, Shenandoah National Park
-- Daily mileage: 10-12 miles on average, with some daily variation (that is, more or less than 10-12 miles)
-- Age limits: none!
-- Preparation: mandatory pre-hikes and prep sessions beforehand
-- This includes parents: any who want to join are welcome on this trip too.
Let me know if you are interested. It'll be a fun trip!
